After last equipment shopping in summt, warm and green Montreal, we started the flight to north from Ottawa. Pond Inlet is actually pretty far off from the inhabeted belt of Canada; pretty much all major towns in the whole country lay along its southern border, from Montreal to Vancouver. Planes got smaller and smaller, half of the cabin being reserved for cargo. Safety routines at the airport diminished and finally disappeared, when four passangers walked into the plane at Clyde River. People became more and more friendly and helpful. In total the trip from Rimouski lasted 4 days, and the day of flying took 10h. In latitudes that would correspond to flying from the Alps to Bear Island... So of course I had to re-get the flue that had been bugging me in Rimouski. After the explorer-photos of yesterday, I should actually add here a photo of a less brave explorer coughing in bed today... Arnaud has been running around organizing things while I have been working on recovery. Typiskt!! Tonight two more people of the field team will join us and tomorrow we will cross to Bylot :) Either by a mini-plane, weather permitting, or with snow scooters and sledges accompanied by inuit guides. If all goes well this is the last blog-posting before late June.
