A snowbed is place (usually some sort of concave landform) where snow stays longer in the spring than in the surroundings. Typically snowbeds are fertile places but have specific vegetation that is adapted to short growing seasons. Most of our garden is in fact situated in a snowbed. While at the most ridge-looking formation of the garden all snow is gone and soil is defrosted, there is still up to a mter of snow at the spot where we cultivate vegetables. Gardening a snowbed might not, actually, be so bright... But you got to deal with what you have! And that gives some extra challenges... like snow-showeling to speed up the spring!

Their small size is not a problem! It will take a while before this is gone... In the foreground an area that I shoveled snowfree, in the background the real snow level...
The landscape looks very much as if winter is till the winner.
But - As soon as the snow is gone, some hardy vintersalat pops up. Pop-up salad! Long live la mache!

It is a documentary (titling towards a comedy, but also very warm and touching) about people who are lover both in their gardens and of their gardens... You can find the trailer here.
