In September, we have collected about 50 kg of walnuts from five trees in total. They were dried and opened (a small operation...), producing in total 18 kg of clean nuts. Now we have pressed them to oil.

Trough a funnel and tube they were passed into a machine which broke them, and then poured into a roasting device.
This machine turned them around and around for a while. It was supposed to be heated using the nutshells with a "säätötuli" device (green thing to the left). This new device from Finland did not work, and the roasting was done the old and reliable way, firewood..
Finally, the nuts were pressed with a huge machine.
We got ca 11 litres of oil. This was a very modest amount compared to many others who were pressing their nuts today; some people came with 200kg of clean nuts...
The press was highly efficient; they manage to extract pretty much all grease that the nuts have, up to 70% of weight, leaving a sawdust-reminding powder.
