Likholmen

Likholmen, in the photo above, (ruumisluoto, corpse skerry) is a little island at the north tip of Kvaløya, next to the bay of  Likvika and very close to the church of Gåsvær on an nearby island. The story tells that during winter dead people were put at Likholmen to wait that the soil at Gåsvær graveyard would defrost in the spring. Must have been quite a job to find an island with enough soil to bury people, enough space for a church and a usable harbour...

We passed by Likvika on the summers first hikingtrip with Sanja and Elvin.

First night we slept in tent. Around 4am the sun was baking us inside and I moved outside to sleep. Next night we did not put up the tent but slept on the open at a nice little beach. And woke up to a little family of sheep looking at us from three meters distance... Both Elvin and the sheep were quite calm, and after a while the sheep simply passed through our camp.
