People seem have tendency to make each others life complicated and less pleasant, not easier and better. Examples from real life:

1. Today I have used at least half an hour to sort out a social mess related to two unemptied garbage cans. What a great way to spend time.

2. A lab where Im supposed to do lab-work this October in Grenoble has been unable to give clear answer of time since I started asking it in April. What a great way to spend time getting frustrated about not being able to plan anything.

3. Administration at the University in Rimouski where Im going after my stay in France wants me to have a work permit. Neither Canadian nor Quebec administration requires that for a Finnish PhD-student doing an internship of only few months. But the university administration does. What a great way to spend time to fill in forms.

4. Quebec embassy serving Scandinavian countries is in Paris, having their web-pages exclusively in French. Is their policy officially to try to make things complicated?

Note: being used to Scandinavian "cross borders where you want, how you want and for how long you wish" -system it is difficult to understand the amazing amount of documentation that the human societies have managed to come up with just to document who can move where. Its like the two different ways of thinking about owning land; is it at all possible to own an area - it is there anyway and has nothing to do with the humans who live and die above it - or does all area belong to someone?
