Usually you dont notice it. But sometimes, especially when its winter, cold and dark (and probably low tide), you smell the Sea in town. Maybe its the lack of other smells that makes it more smelly in winter? Its a whole lot stronger smell than the Baltic Sea, more salty, more rotten. Its like everything with this sea - more of a sea. Waves are larger, fish look more frightening (ainakaan isoja haukia hän ei pelännyt!), fishing net mesh size is larger, algae are forest-sized, water is so salty you shoul NOT use it for cooking (exept some norwegian cod-boiling recipies do...), depths are really deep and winds strong enough to shake buildings. Crossing the bridge to Kvaløya makes me want to dive - the water is clear enough to see the bottom.
